On Saturday, November 9th, 2024, Norco Fire Company had the privilege of hosting the Uwchlan Ambulance Training Institute’s EMT class for an invaluable hands-on vehicle rescue training drill. The exercise brought together the skilled firefighting team at Norco and the dedicated EMT trainees, fostering a collaborative environment aimed at enhancing interagency coordination and lifesaving skills.
Throughout the drill, the EMT students had the unique opportunity to work alongside Norco’s experienced firefighters to practice crucial techniques for rescuing individuals from vehicle accidents. The training encompassed vehicle stabilization, patient assessment, and safe extrication methods – essential skills that are vital in high-stakes rescue situations.
Led by Deputy Chief Chuck Hipple and Engineer Rob Esposito, Norco’s firefighters demonstrated various extrication tools and techniques while the EMT students practiced stabilizing patients and providing initial medical care in a controlled, hands-on setting. The training not only enhanced technical proficiency but also emphasized the importance of effective communication and teamwork between fire and EMS personnel.
A huge thank you goes out to Hawks Towing for donating the vehicles we used for the rescue scenarios. Their support made it possible for us to run realistic, effective training sessions that truly benefited everyone involved.
We also want to thank the Uwchlan Ambulance Training Institute for giving us the opportunity to work with and mentor these enthusiastic future EMTs. We’re looking forward to more chances to train and learn together in the future! |
